Keynote Speakers:

Laura Turner Seydel
Laura Turner Seydel is an international environmental advocate and eco-living expert dedicated to creating a healthy and sustainable future for our children. Laura is chairperson of the Captain Planet Foundation which promotes hands-on environmental education projects worldwide. She is a director of and works with the Environmental Working Group to limit the toxic chemicals in food, air, water and consumer products. In 2004 she co-founded Mothers and Others for Clean Air and is currently the Chair of the Board, and in 1994 she and her husband co-founded Chattahoochee Riverkeeper.  Laura serves on her family’s foundation boards including The Turner Foundation, Jane Smith Turner Foundation, the Turner Endangered Species Fund, and Ted’s Montana Grill. She is vice chair of League of Conservation Voters Education Fund and sits on additional national boards including League of Conservation Voters, Defenders of Wildlife, Waterkeeper Alliance, the Carter Center Board of Councilors, as well as serving on the advisory board for the Ray C. Anderson Foundation. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Downtown Atlanta. Laura lives with her husband and her three children in their home, EcoManor, the first LEED certified Gold residence in the southeastern United States.
 


Derreck Kayongo

From Uganda to Kenya to America, The Three Lives of Derreck Kayongo takes us on an incredible journey of transformation.  In this inspiring story, Derreck will walk us through his childhood in war-torn Africa and into his path from homeless refugee to successful social recycling entrepreneur.  Derreck Kayongo founded The Global Soap Project in 2009, which recycles discarded soap from hotels, processes it and sends it to developing countries around the world, thereby assisting in the fight against hygiene-related disease which is the number one cause of illness for children in these areas.  In 2011 he was chosen as one of CNN’s top ten heroes.

 


Judith Webb, APR
Judith Webb was named Executive Vice President of the U.S. Green Building Council in 2014, after serving as the organization's chief communications consultant beginning in 2003, before joining the staff full time as SVP, Marketing & Strategy, beginning in 2007. Judith’s 40+ years of marketing experience and deep-rooted commitment to the organization’s customers and stakeholders have made her well equipped to act as USGBC’s most ardent brand champion and “speaker of the house.”Judith is a founding member of GreenEarth PR Network, and remains an active member of PRSA and its Public Affairs and Government section. She supports Lily’s Cloak, a cooperative ministry in her hometown of Stone Mountain, Georgia. She lectures widely on communications theory, and is a popular speaker on environmental issues.

Dennis Creech
Dennis Creech co-founded Southface in 1978 and has served as executive director for 37 years. Recognized as a national leader in sustainability, he has received numerous professional awards, including the prestigious Hanley Award for Leadership in Sustainable Housing, the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance Legacy Award, the Residential Energy Services Network Program Leadership Award, the Atlanta Business Chronicle Lifetime Achievement Award, the GreenLaw Lifetime Achievement Award, and designation by Georgia Trend as one of the “100 Most Influential Georgians.” He has served on the boards of national and local nonprofits, including RESNET, EEBA, ACI Home Performance, Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, Georgia Watch and the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership. Under his leadership Southface has helped the private sector, from real estate developers to Chick-fil-A, launch practical, market-based sustainability solutions.  Southface has also helped state and local governments across the Southeast adopt policies to encourage sustainable development and clean energy technologies and frequently partners with other nonprofits on education, research and advocacy.  Mr. Creech works in a LEED Platinum office building, lives in an EarthCraft certified home and drives a hybrid vehicle.


George Bandy, Jr.
George Bandy, Jr. currently serves as the Vice President of Sustainability at Interface, concentrating on global relationships. George is focused on customer intimacy and increased growth of Interface’s largest customers and specifiers by translating the sustainability leadership position of Interface into a direct market advantage. George focuses on advancing Mission Zero, Interface’s promise to eliminate any negative impact on the environment by 2020. George is an internationally renowned speaker and travels extensively as a presenter with lectures covering such topics as: The Business Case for Sustainability, Innovation and Design with Nature in Mind, Greening the Supply Chain, Social Sustainability & Culture Change, Biomimicry & Biophilic Design. Before coming to Interface, George served as the Sustainable Development Officer for the University of Texas- Houston where his role was to educate, develop and support the University in facility operations, construction, development and business practices that demonstrated minimum negative repercussions on social, economic and environmental issues in their use or application. In addition to his duties at Interface, George also serves as the immediate past Chairman of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Board of Directors.  A LEED Accredited Professional, he is the former chairman of the Georgia chapter and serves on the National Social Equity Committee and the North Carolina Chapter Advisory Board. George is a native of Opelika, Alabama and a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Environmental Business Management with continued sustainability training at the University of Texas-Houston.

Scott Jenkins
Scott is the General Manager of the new Atlanta Falcons stadium, which opens in 2017. He previously served as VP of Ballpark Operations for the Seattle Mariners for 7 years. Prior to this, Jenkins spent 3 years with the Philadelphia Eagles and 6 years with the Milwaukee Brewers where he opened and operated newly constructed stadiums for both teams. He was the Director of Facilities and Events for Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Wisconsin and was involved in the construction of the Kohl Center. Jenkins holds a degree in Construction Administration from the University of Wisconsin and is a graduate of the University of Washington Executive MBA program. He is a founding member of the Green Sports Alliance and serves as the board chair.





Elizabeth Montoya
As Director of Corporate and Social Responsibility, Elizabeth Montoya leads sustainability initiatives at Rubicon Global and runs the company's corporate social responsibility programs. She manages Rubicon Global's partnerships with global thought leaders including the United Nations Global Compact, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Basel Action Network (BAN), Enactus (formerly SIFE) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Montoya has extensive experience in public relations, marketing and program development in the non-profit sector and the green building industry. Previously, Montoya was the Director of Programs and Communications at the Humanities Council of Washington, D.C. where she managed city-wide cultural programs and ran a comprehensive public relations effort. During her time at USGBC, Montoya managed LEED Education programs at USGBC chapters across the nation. Montoya has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a Masters of Tourism Administration from the George Washington University School of Business.

Debbie Phillips, CPM
Debbie Phillips is a real estate professional with over 25 years of experience leasing, marketing and managing diverse property types. As an entrepreneur, Debbie has a multi-faceted career including developing world class leadership development programs and talent management strategies in addition to serving as an industry expert, keynote speaker and noted author.  Along with her private consulting, Debbie serves as President for the Georgia Apartment Industry Education Foundation. She serves as an Adjunct Professor at Georgia Tech and as an online professor for the New School of Architecture and Design in San Diego. Debbie is also involved in industry organizations and serves in advisory roles. Debbie completed her Ph.D. from Georgia Tech, where her research focused on Resident Satisfaction and Employee Engagement as she developed an Employee Engagement Model for the Multi-Housing Industry. Her areas of research focus are generational preferences in sustainability, workforce development and talent management. 

Sharon Shuford, CAE, CITE, LEED GA
Sharon Shuford is currently senior director of events and professional development at BOMA Georgia, where she is responsible for education programming, content, format, speaker and SME recruitment, and logistics management. Prior to joining BOMA, Shuford held a similar position with the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association.  In all, she has over 30 years of professional experience planning and producing meetings, education content, and events in the association, third party and corporate sectors.  Past clients have included, among others, Interface Worldwide, BASF Corporation, and Sysco Foods. Since leading the event logistics team on the Interface Inc. world program in the mid 1990’s, where she participated in some of the earliest, large scale green and sustainable meeting initiatives, Shuford has been bringing best practices to her programs, and to the hospitality industry as a founding board member and past president of Site Southeast and past president of the Atlanta GMIC Chapter.  She continually looks for ways to expand her expertise and participated in the first training session on teaching the new APEX ASTM Standards.  She has also earned the LEED GA designation. Shuford is an active member of the Georgia Society of Association Executives.  She has been an Atlanta resident since 1976, and lives on a farm with her husband, horse, and dogs.

Steve Tochilin
Steve Tochilin is general manager of environmental sustainability for Delta Air Lines. His team champions Delta’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact and engage employees and customers on environmental initiatives.  Steve oversees Delta’s carbon management and environmental health programs, and coordinates company-wide reporting on environmental, social, and governance performance. Steve has 36 years of environmental, health and safety experience, including 21 years at Delta. He has a bachelor’s degree in environmental toxicology from UC Davis, a master’s degree in environmental health from UC Berkeley, and an MBA from Georgia State. He is a fellow in the American Industrial Hygiene Association and is past-chair of the ASHRAE aircraft cabin air quality standard committee.





Tim Trefzer
Since 2010, Tim Trefzer has overseen environmental sustainability at the Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA), which is comprised of the 3.9 million square foot Georgia World Congress Center, the 71,250-seat Georgia Dome, Centennial Olympic Park, and the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. He is responsible for improving the efficiency of internal operations, working with clients to reduce the impact of their events, and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship. Tim was chair of the sustainability committee for the 2013 NCAA Men’s Final Four held in Atlanta which was named the greenest Final Four in history. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and administered the GWCC’s LEED for Existing Buildings certification in 2014 at which time it became the largest LEED certified convention center in the world. Tim is President-Elect of Atlanta’s Green Meetings Industry Council, is on the steering committee for Atlanta Recycles and the Collegiate Sports Sustainability Summit, and is a member of both the Green Sports Alliance and the US Green Building Council. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Sustainability Leadership at Arizona State University.


Cristine Schulz
​​Cristine Schulz is the North American Sustainability Business Partner for Kimberly-Clark Corporation, responsible for integration of business unit teams and manufacturing locations with corporate sustainability initiatives.  She has been with K-C since 2001, occupying roles in Research & Engineering and Global Product Safety as well as Sustainability.  Prior to joining K-C, she worked in engineering and operations for International Paper.  Her M.S. in Pulp & Paper Engineering from IPST at Georgia Tech sparked her passion for sustainably-sourced fibers.  She lives in Roswell, GA with her husband and two daughters.


 Anthony Williams, CGCS, CGM
Anthony is considered a leading authority on Environomics. A 29+ year veteran manager with Marriott International, he won Marriott’s highest honor, the J.W. Marriott Award of Excellence in 2008, and is a two time winner of Marriott Golf’s Grounds Manager of the Year award. He has developed and sustained cutting edge environmental programs for golf courses and hotels throughout his career. He was the 2006 National Public and Overall winner of the Environmental Leaders in Golf Contest for his work at the Stone Mountain Golf Club and was selected as the 2010 honoree of the GCSAA President’s Award for Environmental Stewardship. He was also the recipient of the GCSAA 2014 Excellence in Government Relations Award for his role in water conservation policies in Georgia. A sought after writer and speaker, Anthony was recognized by the Turf & Ornamental Communicators Association as the 2011 Environmental Communicator of the Year. The American Hotel and Lodging Association acknowledged his work at the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort by selecting Evergreen as their 2010 National “Good Earth Keeping” award winner. He is currently the Environmental Editor for Golfdom magazine and is involved in numerous environmental, service and philanthropic activities. He is also a 9th degree Black Belt, Founder of the Cornerstone Martial Arts Society and 2001 inductee into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame. His first environmental book, The Environmental Stewardship Toolkit was released at the 2012 Golf Industry Show by John Wiley and Sons publishing.


Lindsay Wilkinson
Lindsay Wilkinson is Manager of Corporate Responsibility – Environmental Sustainability, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), based in Atlanta, GA. Lindsay aids the planning and execution of IHG’s global sustainability strategy for the company’s over 4,700 hotels worldwide.  She more specifically works on strategy and execution for the Americas and Greater China regions.  She has worked on large scale projects including the launch of the IHG Green Engage™ system -- IHG’s online sustainability platform -- as a foundation standard for all IHG hotels globally, the support of sustainability integration into IHG’s Sales function, and management of key external relationships, including those with Clean the World and third party certifications such as Green Key Global. Lindsay joined IHG in 2012. Prior to her time at IHG, Lindsay has held multiple operational management positions within the hospitality industry. Lindsay started her career working for Pop II, LLC in New York City, where she helped open additional locations for the popular bar/lounge. She then began work in the hotel industry at 21C Museum hotel, a growing contemporary art gallery/hotel concept, where she managed events for the Louisville location. Lindsay earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance at New York University, where she graduated Cum Laude.  She earned a Masters of Business Administration at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, where she graduated Beta Gamma Sigma and with Highest Distinction (top 5%), she also won the American Marketing Association Award, the George E. Mew Organization and Management Award, and the Social Enterprise Distinguished MBA Student Award. 

Tracy Stuckrath, CSEP, CMM, CHC

A speaker, consultant and hospitality & events industry trainer, Tracy Stuckrath is Founder & Chief Connecting Officer of Thrive! Meetings & Events. Her firm specializes in educating the hospitality industry on how to reduce risk, maximize budgets and improve customer experience through safe, delicious and healthy food and beverage events. Based in Atlanta, Tracy also serves on the Atlanta Foodservice Expo’s Advisory Council and as Regional Director/East for The Senior Planners Industry Network (SPIN). She chaired the 2014 FARE Walk for Food Allergy and the 2015 Allie Awards. Among numerous awards, Tracy was named a 2014 Meetings Trendsetter by Meetings Focus magazine, and has won Allie Awards for Best Corporate/Association Event and Best Public Fair or Festival.




Cornelius Willingham
Cornelius is Nissan’s Electric Vehicle Strategy & Business Development Manager, in the Southeast Region. He’s responsible for expanding the market for electric vehicles, and their acceptance by the general public.  His role also supports development of EV Charging Infrastructure, and Nissan’s Workplace Charging outreach to large employers and municipalities. Since he joined Nissan in 2012, the zero emissions, Nissan LEAF has become the “Best Selling Electric Vehicle” in Automotive History, and Atlanta has become the #1 LEAF market in America. Long a socially conscience, environmental advocate, he was the only auto-dealer among the founding stakeholders of Clean Cities Charlotte. He recognized, with Nissan’s introduction of the 100% Electric LEAF, the era of practical, affordable, electric vehicles is at hand. A true believer EV’s answer our needs for sustainable transportation; he cites their lower operating costs, greater reliability and zero emissions. He’s fond of saying, “We’re starting a shift from fossil fuels, which will bring greater change than the migration away from horses in the 1900’s."
