GMIC Colorado Presents:  The Benefits of Certification of APEX/ASTM Standards

The ASTM/APEX Standards are a set of nine formal, voluntary standards developed for the meetings, conventions, exhibitions and events industry. GMIC was a key leader in the formation of these performance standards. Now, the Colorado Convention Center is the first "meeting venue" to be certified under these standards, and VISIT DENVER is working hard to become the first "destination" to be certified. Recently, the industry's first and only comprehensive standards for environmentally sustainable meetings have been created through a partnership of CIC's APEX initiative and ASTM International and spearheaded by GMIC. The ASTM/APEX Standards are a set of nine formal, voluntary standards developed by the meetings, conventions, exhibitions and events industry that provide event planners and suppliers prescriptive, measurable specifications for producing events in a more sustainable manner.

The Colorado Convention Center (CCC) has become the first event and conference venue in the world to be certified in compliance with the standard specific to event venues.  CCC achieved Level One certification with the ASTM Standard pertaining to the Evaluation and Selection of Venues for Environmentally Sustainable Meetings, Events, Trade Shows, and Conferences (E2774-11).

The standards were created in partnership with ASTM International, an ANSI-accredited standards development organization. The E2774-11 Venue Standard delineates the procedural requirements for venue selection -- the practice of researching, evaluating and choosing the facility for an environmentally sustainable event. The standard specifies specific performance criteria for staff management, communications, waste management, energy, air quality, water, procurement, and community partners.

We have gathered a distinguished panel of experts for an overview of a of these standards as well as insights on certifications in the areas. Participants will include Lindsay Arell, Sustainability Programs Manager for the CCC, Tiffany Hoambrecker, Associate Director of Convention Services at VISIT DENVER,  Dave Kreutz, Director of AV Operations Colorado Convention Center for Image Audio Visuals, and Karl Pfalzgraf Vice President, Sustainability Assurance with iCompli, division of BPA Worldwide, the organization responsible for administering the certification process.  GMIC Colorado is excited to announce that this session will be moderated by Tamara Kennedy-Hill, Executive Director of GMIC Global.
