Green Meeting Industry Council - Our Founders
Founded in 2003, GMIC is on a mission to transform the global meeting and events industry through sustainability. Here's just a little bit about our founders, who've been green since before being green was cool!
Amy Spatrisano, CMP
Amy Spatrisano, CMP is an internationally-recognized leader in the sustainable meeting and event management field. She's been named one of the 25 Most Powerful in the Meetings Industry, acknowledged as one of the Growing Green Leaders, and included in the list of Eco-Leaders. She is co-founder of the Green Meeting Industry Council and co-author of Simple Steps to Green Meetings and Events and Saving Green By Going Green.
Spatrisano chaired the APEX Green Meetings and Events Practice Panel, working in partnership with ASTM to develop green meeting standards for the meetings industry. She is currently a member of the working group for the Global Reporting Initiative’s Event Organizers Sector Supplement. She is a long-time MPI member, having served as chapter president, chair of the International Chapter Leadership Committee, and member of the association’s International Board of Directors.
Nancy J. Zavada, CMP
Nancy J. Zavada, CMP is a leader, innovator, and entrepreneur in the meeting planning and events industry. She began her career in the industry in 1978 and is a Principal with MeetGreen®, a conference management and consulting firm specializing in green meetings. She founded the firm in 1994, and is a co-founder of the Green Meeting Industry Council.
Zavada provides green meeting management and consulting services for a diverse base of national and international organizations. MeetGreen® is a recipient of the IMEX Award for Environmentally Responsible Meetings.
Internationally recognized as a leader in environmentally responsible meeting and event management, Zavada served on the Live Earth Global Green Team and was named one of 25 Most Influential People in the Meetings Industry by Meeting News Magazine in 2003 and 2008. She is co-author of Simple Steps to Green Meetings and Events and Saving Green By Going Green, and her blog, Pretentious Musings of a Meet Green Martyr, shares resources, tips, ideas, and anecdotes about the life of a green meeting planner.
